EXCEPTIONALLY ORDINARY

It is said that the secret of life is finding joy in the ordinary, but is it okay to be just normal and live a life that is complete and good. Is that enough? I guess for some it is. But then it got me thinking, just because people want normal lives doesn’t mean they get it. Just because people want to be normal doesn’t mean they are. What matters the most is what you think of yourself. It’s perspective that matters. So, as usual, I did a little digging and it has led me to this beautiful piece of humanity that we fail to acknowledge of being just exceptionally ordinary.                                                                                 When a question comes up asking “Who here is normal?” Would any of you put your hands up? There may be...

How do you rewrite the stars?

There is joy in holding onto the traditions and practices of our culture. We grow up believing in them. It is when we grow up we start questioning these practices. One of these practices that bothered me the most was falling in love. Growing up I was taught it was wrong and so I stuck by it, no questions asked. But now as an adult, I wonder as it doesn’t make any sense.                                I am not aware if this is followed all over India but I do know it is followed in most parts of Tamil Nadu. Very few have the liberty to escape this and live as they want to. Falling in love is not an option here. Growing even I thought it was wrong. Indeed, it is not needed at a young age but I don’t see the problem in searching for a partner at the right time. I guess I also realized that you don’t always have to search for it, sometimes it just happens. Even then that liberty is for a very few only. I b...

Overcoming Grief

Image
No matter how many times life teaches us that everything happens for a reason, when we face the situation we question life don't we. Why? Why should this happen to me? Why today? Why here? I have faced such similar situations and when I asked the same question, the only answer I got is that, "Don't ask why ". We want a reason for everything. But what is life if there's no mystery in it. What's done is done. We gain nothing from asking why. What we can do is ask what's next. Life can be mysterious like that and the only way to live it is to embrace it.                                              Grief can be very scary. We feel alone and scared all the time. Overcoming it can be a challenge and the very first step to overcome it is to accept the past is done. As it is rightly said,               ...

Fasting

Image
F asting is the most powerful spiritual discipline of all religious disciplines. What do you think of Fasting? Is it sounds like religious, or a term from medical? Actually, both. Isn’t it?        Fasting is the willful refrainment (i.e.) withhold from eating and drinking. According to Wikipedia, in a physiological view, fasting may refer to the metabolic status of a person who has not eaten overnight or to the metabolic state achieved after complete digestion and absorption of a meal.      So, in simple, we can say that fasting is a process of not eating or drinking over a certain time.      Fasting is of different types or ways. Each person has their own concept for fasting. Some don’t eat the whole day, but drink water. Some will only intake liquid content. Some skip the breakfast or lunch as a fasting. So why do we fast? What is the religious reason for fasting?       ...
